DTS: Your Source for Hydrostatic System Design, Service, and Manufacturing
Hydrostatic Drive Technology
Hydrostatic drives consistently outperform standard gear drives in variable output speed applications. This is mainly due to the fact that they can offer infinitely variable speed control, where gear transmissions are “locked in” to specific speed based on the size and number of gears. As a result, the power curve of gear drives has peaks and valleys, whereas the hydrostatic curve is smooth and continuous. Hydrostatic drives can also offer fast response and can maintain precise speed, even under varying loads.
These drives only stand to get better, as newer and more capable electronic controls take the helm. Because of the infinitely variable speed output of the drive, the precision of the system is only limited by the system that controls it. With proper management, exact outputs can be achieved and maintained, greatly improving the efficiency of any process.
Hydrostatic transmissions are typically used in off-Road applications, such as the following:
Experience and worldwide presence has made Poclain a leader in hydrostatic transmissions. It’s cam-lobe and radial piston motors have made this possible, and has allowed Poclain to offer efficient and reliable systems for a wide range of applications.
- Featured Products:
- Cam-lobe radial-piston motors

Danfoss manufactures both single pumps, transaxles and right-angle transmission packages. These products offer a wide range of output speeds that match any application requirement.
Linde manufactures axial piston pumps used for both open and closed circuit operations. Linde offers variable and self-regulation pumps, suitable for heavy-duty hydraulic applications with a peak pressure of up to 500 BAR.
